Rosenwald School’s Centennial Celebration

The centennial celebration of the Retreat Rosenwald School, a key institution for black students from 1924-1950, was on March 22. The event honored the school’s legacy and the community’s effort towards its restoration. Former student Magdalene Hawthorne and Oconee School Superintendent Michael Thorsland highlighted the school’s historical significance. State Senate President Thomas Alexander read proclamations recognizing the school’s importance. More events are planned to continue sharing the school’s story with younger generations.
