RSVP for Black History Luncheon in Seneca

Each February, the City of Seneca celebrates Black History Month, honoring the contributions of African-Americans in our country’s history. As part of the celebration, Seneca hosts the third annual Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum Black History Luncheon, explains Shelby Henderson, house manager of the Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum. “Our keynote speaker, Dr. Roy Jones is the director of the Call Me Mister Program at Clemson University and our theme for this year’s luncheon is “Saving the Black Male.” One of the focuses of the Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum is going to be an education focus. Dr. Jones’ program is right in line with that, emphasizing the urgency of having black male role models in the classroom for children.” Last year, over 150 people attended the free event, which takes place this year on Feb. 13 at 11:30am. It takes place in the Gignilliat Community Center in Seneca. If you plan to attend, RSVP at 864-247-3996.
