SC Couple sentenced in GA

A South Carolina couple will spend decades behind bars in Georgia on crimes they committed in connection with the murder a Townville man. Late Friday, a jury found 27-year old Jonathon Reid Cann of Iva and 23-year old Chelsea Brooke Clary of Anderson guilty in Elbert County Superior Court of crossing state lines to conceal a death in the murder of 35-year old Charles Paul Mills. Cann and Clary were also convicted on two counts of arson, multiple counts of theft, bringing stolen property into the State and multiple counts of aggravated assault. Tuesday, Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Parks White announced their sentences. “Cann was sentenced to 50 years with the first 30 to serve; it provided notice of her intent to seek recidivist punishment because he has numerous felonies for burglaries and drugs. Clary received a 30 year sentence with the first 20 years to serve.” Mills’ charred remains were found Sept. 28, 2014 in the trunk of his burning Kia Spectra near Highway 368 near the South Carolina state line. They were arrested at a house in Elberton later that night after a massive manhunt involving law enforcement from two states. White said the couple would immediately begin serving their sentences in Georgia. The pair faces murder charges in South Carolina and White said Tuesday that he expects 10th Circuit Solicitor Chrissy Adams to seek extradition.
