SC House members pre-file 53 bills for 2014

Domestic violence and slow drivers are among the topics of bills pre-filed in the House for the legislative session that resumes in January. The Associated Press reports that House members filed more than 50 bills by noon Tuesday. That marked the Legislature’s first pre-filing deadline for 2014. The next deadline for House members and senators is Dec. 10. The final pre-filing deadline is Dec. 17 for senators only. A proposal seeks to increase domestic violence penalties in a state that consistently rates among the worst in violence against women. Slow driving clearly irks some lawmakers. One bill would bar mopeds from roads where the speed limit exceeds 45 mph. Another would penalize people driving slower than the limit or texting while in the fast lane of a highway.
