SC ranks No. 1 for Deadly Violence Against Women

South Carolina has again ranked worst in the nation for deadly violence against women. The Associated Press reports that a report released Tuesday by the Violence Policy Center ranks South Carolina first for women murdered by men. The center says the state’s rate of just over two women killed per 100,000 people in 2013 is more than twice the national average. The rate represents 57 known deaths, compared with 50 a year earlier. South Carolina was second last year and has been in the report’s top 10 annually for the last 18 years. This is the fourth time the state ranked worst in the nation. The report comes just before Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. The study uses the latest data available from the FBI for crimes involving one male killing one female.
