SC Seniors Week planned

On Thursday, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism held a joint press conference in the lobby of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce to highlight an upcoming week that will be devoted to South Carolina’s senior citizens. South Carolina Seniors Week 2015 has been scheduled for Jan. 8-18, 2015. The week will focus solely on the health, socialization, and well-being of South Carolina senior citizens by featuring discounts at various hotels, restaurants, and attractions throughout the state. “South Carolina seniors are our state’s greatest treasure,” remarked Lieutenant Governor McGill. “We owe them a debt of gratitude for all they have accomplished and contributed to society during their lifetime, and this week gives us an opportunity to give back to them by showing our appreciation.” South Carolina currently has an estimated senior population of 950,000. According to census projections, the number of seniors is expected to climb exponentially over the coming years, reaching close to two million by the year 2030.
