SC Unemployment Rate drops to 7-Year Low

South Carolina’s unemployment rate is at its lowest level in more than seven years. The figure dropped to 5.7% in September from 6% in August. According to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, the last time the unemployment rate was that low was February 2008. The state’s jobless rate is down 1.1% since May, declining each of the past four months. Locally, Oconee County posted unemployment at 5.5%, Pickens County reports 5.6% and Anderson County lists the unemployment rate at 5.2%. The national unemployment rate was unchanged in September at 5.1%.
