SCDMV urges Drivers to add Emergency Contact to License

A person is injured in a crash every 10 minutes according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol, so the ability for law enforcement to reach the next of kin is vital. Therefore, the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles urges drivers to update their emergency contacts. By adding emergency contact information to your driver’s licenses, law enforcement will know right away who to call in an emergency. The ability to add an emergency contact to your South Carolina license became available in 2011, but most South Carolinians have no idea it exists. Drivers can go online and enter the information through their online services selection. Adding emergency contact information is a free service and only law enforcement will have access to the information.
