Schuck Memorial Blood Drive scheduled

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting an event to raise money for a scholarship fund in honor of an Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy who passed away over 4 years ago, explains Captain Jeff Underwood.  “Deputy Bill Schuck passed away in the line of duty in the early morning house of February 7, 2010 after being pinned between his patrol vehicle and a tree on a dirt road off of Highway 11.  Schuck served with the Sheriff’s Office for 2 years and before that with the West Columbia Police Department for 2 years.” Captain Underwood says the Schuck Memorial Blood Drive 2014 will be held on May 13 from 2-6pm in the gravel parking lot at the Oconee County Law Enforcement Center in Walhalla. “The blood drive obviously doesn’t raise funds or anything like that but it a great way to memorialize somebody and help others at the same time.” The blood drive coincides with National Law Enforcement Appreciation Week, which is May 11–17.  The AnMed Blood Mobile will be on hand and t-shirts will also be sold the day of the event for $10 each while supplies last, adds Captain Underwood.  “One thing that we are doing from a fundraising aspect is we have designed a t-shirt in memory of Bill and we will be selling those on the day of the blood drive for $10.  All proceeds from that will go to the Bill Schuck Memorial Scholarship Fund.” The scholarship named in honor of Deputy Schuck will be presented at Walhalla High School on May 13 at 7pm.  It is awarded each year to a graduating senior in the School District of Oconee County who has participated in law ed classes at the Hamilton Career Center.  The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office invites everyone to attend this special event.
