Science and Mathematics Governor’s School to host Statewide Robotics Scrimmage

Students at the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) are hosting a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Scrimmage for the 2016 Game Challenge entitled “Res-Q” on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 10am until 4pm at 401 Railroad Avenue in Hartsville. This scrimmage is open to all FTC teams across the state, as well as North Carolina and Georgia. It will provide participants the opportunity to prepare for the South Carolina Regional Competition later in the month. Seventeen teams have already registered for the scrimmage including teams from Hartsville, Greenville, Columbia, Charleston and Summerville, along with teams from Charlotte and Durham, North Carolina, and teams from Snellville, Toombs and Roswell, Georgia. GSSM has had at least one robotics team since 2005. In 2014, the team competed in the FTC World Championships and was ranked 30th in the world. The first step toward competing in the 2016 world championship will be to win the South Carolina Regional Competition.
