SDOC Hears from Critics on Possible School Consolidation

Seven supporters of the Tamassee-Salem Elementary School have urged the Oconee school trustees to reconsider the idea of closing the last public school in the Salem area and merging it with Keowee Elementary at a new location. This is the second consecutive month that the trustees have received these requests. Lynne Martin and her husband, Eddie, two of the supporters, have criticized the layout of the district’s web page that allows public response via survey. She also mentioned a rumor about the district already selecting a location for the consolidated school and purchasing the property, which was denied by Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland.
