SDOC offering Testing Tips to Students and Parents

With the end of each school year comes final exams. This year, the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) is offering testing tips to both students and parents, explains Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Ginger Hopkins. “While we are beginning to think about these last six weeks, it is important that students are showing up everyday to get that instruction and that they are staying engaged in what is going on in the classroom. We want parents to encourage that. I know that everyone is busy with sports and activities, but we do need students to get their homework done and take time to study as we approach those exams. Then when we get to exam time, it is really important for parents to really know when their students are testing. So, they can log onto to Canvass to know when test dates are and encourage parents to put those on their calendars so they can keep tract of that because the night before testing we want to make sure that students get a good night’s sleep. One of the ways to do that is to make sure that students have quite time before bedtime. I know it is hard for high school students studying for final exams to study and then go straight to sleep, so have some down time will help them sleep. Obviously getting a good breakfast in the morning and making sure that they are up on time to get to school on time. A rushed day or showing up late may mean that they miss the beginning of testing and those kinds of things can present problems, so getting to school on time and a good breakfast are important. In addition, parents attitudes about testing is really important, just taking it seriously but if they feel like they are struggling a little bit just help them know that all they can do is their best and encourage them to do that. Hopefully, we will have a good testing season this year, we are expecting greatness from our students.” For more information, visit www.oconee.k12.sc.us.
