At its regularly scheduled board meeting held on Monday, January 24, 2022, the School District of Oconee County Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Jay Schickling as Chief Financial Officer.  Mr. Schickling will replace Gloria Moore who is retiring after serving the district for more than 20 years.

Mr. Schickling is coming to Oconee County from Williamson Central Schools in upstate New York where he currently serves as the School Business Administrator.  Mr. Schickling earned a Bachelor’s degree from St. John Fisher College, an MBA from Empire State College, and a Masters of Educational Leadership from the University of Buffalo.  In addition, he holds a New York State (NYS) Administrative Certification for School Business Administration, and a Certification for School Finance and Operations from the Association of School Business Officials International. Before moving to school finance administration, Mr. Schickling taught and coached for 9 years.  He is also active in the community, serving on the governing board for several local organizations as well as serving as a regional chapter president in the NYS Association of School Business Officials.  Mr. Schickling will be moving to the area with his wife and children in the coming months.

Mr. Schickling said, “Our family will be moving to join you in the spring.  We’re looking forward to enjoying the warm weather, outdoors, and excellent college football atmosphere!  I’m looking forward to joining the SDOC leadership team and working with them to continue to provide the best quality education possible to the communities of Oconee County.”

Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland said, “We were thrilled with the quality of applicants from within South Carolina and from other states.  Mr. Schickling is already an accomplished school business official and we look forward to welcoming him to our team.”
