SDPC Passes Budget on Second Reading

The School District of Pickens County’s budget for 2024-25, exceeding $178 million, passed its second reading on Monday without a millage increase. The revenues are based on the state House’s budget, as the Senate’s version is not yet finalized. The Senate’s current version could reduce state aid to classrooms by $29.7 million. Staffing and line-item budgets are being finalized, with certified staff contract signings due by May 10. From FY 2019-2020 to the proposed FY 2024-25, there’s been a 38% increase (~$49 million), with a third from local tax levies and 60% from state funds. The board passed the budget 6-0, with Trustee Brad Dover abstaining. The final vote is scheduled for May 28.
