Sears recalling Dehumidifiers

If you have a Sears dehumidifier, check it, because there is a recall for 2003 through 2005 models. Consumer Product Safety Commission spokesman Carl Purvis gives some of the basics on the recall, which is going out for the second time.  “Sears is re-announcing a recall that they had on Kenmore dehumidifiers and these Kenmore brand dehumidifiers were manufactured by LG.” Purvis tells more about the previous recall.  “These were recalled previously in August of 2012 and there are about 795,000 of them.” There is a real safety concern with these dehumidifiers, says Purvis. “They are dehumidifiers that are shorting and catching on fire.” Purvis says it is the second time around for this recall because so few people responded the first time. He says Sears and the manufacturer LG wanted to get the word out again.  “They wanted to re-announce, they wanted to make sure that everybody who has one of these dehumidifiers has the opportunity to take advantage of the remedy that they offer.” This is what you will hear when you call the Sears recall help line. “Thank you for calling the dehumidifier recall information line. To quickly determine if your unit is affected and to receive free pre-paid shipping labels for your enrollment package, please visit our website at www.kenmoredehumidifierrecall.com.” Once again, the recall is for 800,000 Kenmore dehumidifiers that were manufactured by LG between 2003 and 2005 because there are new reports these units could be causing fires.
