Senate Judiciary Committee appoints Clemson Professor to State Commission for Minority Affairs

The S.C. Senate Judiciary Committee has appointed a Clemson University professor to examine inequities confronting minorities in the state of South Carolina and implement programs to address these issues. The Clemson University Media Relation Department reports that the committee appointed Lamont Flowers, distinguished professor of educational leadership in the Clemson University Eugene T. Moore School of Education, to serve on the State Commission for Minority Affairs. Flowers was nominated by Gov. Nikki Haley. Following a confirmation process conducted by the Senate Judiciary Committee, he was appointed to serve on the state commission. The State Commission for Minority Affairs is designed to examine the “causes and effects of the socio-economic deprivation of minorities in the state and to implement programs necessary to address inequities confronting minorities in the state.” The commission consists of nine members and the governor.
