Seneca amends Dog License Ordinance

Dogs will no longer be required to have a special tag in the City of Seneca.  At their monthly meeting on Tuesday, the Seneca City Council amended the dog license ordinance, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander.  “On the dog license ordinance, we actually have these little tags that people are required to put on their dogs.  There is something on the books that requires you to have that on your animal, but there are not but a just a few people that actually get it and I know there are more animals out there, but we just feel like that ordinance doesn’t need to be there.  You are still required to do whatever you are supposed to do in the county and the city have leash laws that you have to go by, but as far as little tag that goes on animals that will not be a requirement of Seneca that you have to have it.  But the leash laws and county laws are still in place.” Pet owners still need identification tags on their animals, so it can be returned if it ever gets loose.  The Oconee County Animal Shelter on Bypass 123 can assist pet owners in obtaining proper tags.
