Seneca announces Black History Month Luncheon

The City of Seneca announces plans for this year’s Black History Month luncheon and celebration.  LunneyHouseMuseum curator and director Dr. John Martin says you must make reservations in order to attend.  “This is going to be our second annual Black History Month luncheon and it is going to be bigger than it was last year.  We had about 103, we are looking at around 200, and we are going to be at the Gignilliat Community Center.  The main thing is you must call in for a reservation, anyone who is interested and we encourage all.” Seneca Assistant Events Coordinator and Museum Assistant Mollie Smith is now taking reservations for the city’s second annual Black History Month luncheon.  Reserve your seat by calling her at 864-247-3996.  Dr. Martin says this year’s luncheon will feature some special announcements.  “There are going to be some announcements at the luncheon, I don’t want to give it away yet, come and see, they are special.  It shows a great emphasis for the city, for the Strickland, for the Lunney, for the black community and its involvement.” A special photographic exhibit will be on display at this year’s luncheon as well, adds Dr. Martin. “Also in connection with the luncheon, there will be some of the exhibit that is going to be at the Lunney House called the ‘Spirit of Place’, which is a photographic exhibit, its extraordinary, from Barbados showing slave quarter dwellings.  Also to the right in one of the other rooms will be the quilt work of Anna Willis.  She is outstanding quilter from the black community.”  The photographic collection by Bob Kiss and Terry James honoring Black History Month will be on exhibit at the Lunney House Museum through the month of February. The city’s second annual Black History Month luncheon is set for February 7th, 2014.  This free luncheon at the Gignilliat Community Center is open to the first 200 people to RSVP.
