Seneca Brochure declares War on FOG

Seneca Light and Water has declared war against FOG, fats, oils and grease. A new brochure educates customers about the importance of keeping fats, oils and grease out of the drain, explains Seneca Utilities Director Bob Faires. “It is just an awareness campaign; a lot of people don’t realize the effects of just rinsing a pan out that has been used to fry up some good old Southern chicken or whatever else at the house. Not just the plumbing within their home but on downstream. When it gets into our system, collectively it can be a large nuisance.” Grease is the leading cause for Seneca’s sewer overflows and maintenance expenses. The brochure has colorful pictures informing customers of the proper way to discard fats, oils and grease from food preparation, adds Faires. “The brochure was meant to keep the awareness high that when you are cooking and cleaning to be aware of the fats, oils and greases that are in the household. I think the brochure has some nice colorful pictures for people to get an understanding of what our guys see almost on a daily basis.” Discard all leftovers and scraps into the trash for trash collection, not down the drain. Before cleaning pots, pans and utensils drain liquid grease into a jar, can or paper cup, if that grease has cooled. Wipe the pots and pans with a paper tower to remove all the grease. Discard the paper towel into the trash. Learn more at www.senecalightandwater.com.
