Seneca City Council Gives Approval For Rezoning Of Property On South Cove Road For Development Of Property

(Seneca, SC)—-Seneca City Council gave second and final approval last night to a request to rezone property along a portion of South Cove Road in relation to a proposed 235 unit development of town homes on that property.

The resolution passed with an 8-0 vote by City Council. Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander was absent from last night’s meeting.

The city was awaiting the results of a traffic study by the developer of the project as well as the results of a private traffic study that the city commissioned.

Seneca City Administrator Scott Moulder told City Council and those gathered in Council chambers last night that a recommendation from the traffic study was some additional space for the left hand turn lane leading off of South Cover Road onto Keowee School Road and some monitoring of the engineering of the traffic light signals in regards to the timing and how those are set.

In fact, according to Moulder, the traffic study has recommended a deeper left hand turn lane. Moulder said that the recommendations does not mean new asphalt completely as there will be some restriping opportunities that were mentioned so the possibility is there to restripe the road and do some widening.

Seneca City Council also went into executive session and returned back to regular session to approve either for the Mayor or the City Administrator to sign a contract pertaining to a property purchase for Seneca Light and Water.
