Seneca considering New Electric Company

A new electric company could soon be powering homes in the City of Seneca. When its current five-year contract with Southern Power expires on June 30, 2015, the city plans to switch to Santee Cooper Power, which is South Carolina’s state owned electric and water utility. After a lengthy executive session on Tuesday, the Seneca City Council voted unanimously to begin negotiating with Santee Cooper on a contract to be the city’s wholesale supplier of electricity. Among other suppliers considered by the Seneca City Council were Southern Power, Duke Energy, South Carolina Electric and Gas, and the Piedmont Municipal Power Agency.
