Seneca Council Votes to Raise Water Tap Fees

At their meeting on Tuesday, the Seneca City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to increase water tap fees. The new fees are $1,200 and $1,600 for 3/4-inch and 1-inch taps within city limits, and $1,600 and $1,900 for the same sizes outside city limits. This change aims to cover installation costs and prevent current ratepayers from subsidizing developers, according to administrator Scott Moulder…

Two amendments to the 2023-24 budget were also passed. One incorporates the assistant administrator’s salary into the Seneca Light and Water budget. The other adds $1.3 million from the fire services contract with Oconee County to the city’s budget. This contract allows the city to replenish funds used to subsidize the fire department and hire three new staff members.

Lastly, the council approved an ordinance for a new dog park at the former Kellett Elementary School site, which has been well-received by the community. The meeting concluded with service awards for several council members. Councilwoman Denise Rozman received a 10-year service award, Councilman Dana Moore was honored for 15 years of service, and Mayor Dan Alexander was recognized for his 30 years of service.
