Seneca – Death on Railroad Right of Way

From Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis:

A 45-year-old Seneca woman was discovered dead early Monday morning lying on a railroad track near the Radio Station Road Bridge.

At approximately 2:30 am, Oconee County 911 Communications was notified by railroad personnel that a passing train observed a body lying between the rails.

Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Seneca Police personnel responded, and the Coroner’s Office was dispatched to respond at 2:41 am.

This death remains an active death investigation and an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday to assist with the investigation to determine cause of death.

It has not been determined with certainty if she fell or jumped from the bridge. The distance from the top of the bridge to the railroad tracks below is approximately 50 feet.
She does not have injuries consistent with having been struck by a train.

Her pet dog, also injured, was discovered near her and taken to the animal shelter for evaluation and housing.

The Seneca Police Department is the agency with jurisdiction. Further details may be obtained from their spokesperson.

The name of the deceased will be withheld at this time, pending the investigation and ruling on her manner of death. The family has been notified of her death.
