Seneca High School Chorus Christmas Concert

The Seneca High School Choral Department presents “Sounds of the Season” on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 8pm. The program will feature the Women’s Chorus, Men’s Chorus, Honors Women’s Chorus, Honors Chorale and Madrigal Singers. The concert will open with the Madrigal Singers singing “Merry Christmas Madrigal” from the balcony of Seneca Baptist Church. The Women’s Chorus will present a selection of beautiful holiday pieces such as “Snow on a Moonlit Evening” and the jazzy “Angels We Have Heard on High” with Chrystal Ramirez accompanying on the flute. The Men’s Chorus will be singing the Randall Thompson arrangement of “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, text by Robert Frost. The men will also be singing the traditional French carol, “Sing We Now of Christmas” and the spiritual “Whisper! Whisper!” with soloist Zay Wright. The Madrigal Singers will perform such vocal jazz Christmas selections such as “Three Jazzy Bell Carols” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. They will close out their portion of the program with the Pentatonix arrangement of “The Little Drummer Boy”. The select Honors Women’s Chorus will be performing such pieces as “Wolfgang’s Christmas Canon”, “Light a Candle” featuring soloists Rhiannon Lee and Emily Bailey and the Glee arrangement of “Here Comes Santa Clause” with soloists Madeline Smink and Zoe Patton. The award-winning Honors Chorale will close the concert with beautiful holiday selections such as the traditional “Christmas Waltz” and “The Holly and the Ivy”. Bethany Williams and her brother, Seneca Middle School student Ethan Williams, will be featured on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem. The Honors Chorale will also perform “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from the Disney hit movie, Frozen, with soloist Kierra Douglas. Guest musicians for the concert are Seneca High School alumni Sam Burchfield. Zach Wells will assist him. Seneca High School recently placed twenty-seven students into the South Carolina All-State Chorus. Of the over 85 schools participating in the audition process, this was the fifth largest number of students representing one school. “Sounds of the Season” will take place at Seneca Baptist Church. Admission is free and open to the public. Diane McFarlane is director of the choral ensembles and Masheila Cobb is the accompanist. Ginger Hopkins, School District of Oconee County Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, will provide the welcome.
