Seneca Man arrested for Campus Burglary

Clemson University Police arrested a Seneca man who allegedly entered a campus residence hall room and took items from a student’s purse.  Campus Police report that 44-year-old Richard Clayton Sr. was charged with burglary in the first degree and financial transaction card theft, which are both felonies, as well as with petit larceny less than $2,000 and trespassing after notice. Clayton, who already was on notice not to trespass on university property, is not a student or employee. Police said he followed someone into the locked Manning Hall and entered a student’s room. Warrants said a wallet with debit and gift cards, a cell phone and keys were taken from the room. Clayton is being held in the city jail on a surety bond.
