Seneca Man arrested on Multiple Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man Saturday evening on multiple charges, which include larceny and burglary, explains Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt.  “38-year-old David Andrew Smith of 25 Gammell Street in Seneca was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 7:14pm on Saturday evening on one charge of grand larceny, one count of petit larceny, one count of third degree burglary, and one count of possession of a controlled substance.  Smith also had two outstanding bench warrants, one from Seneca and another one from magistrate’s court on trespassing charges.  According to deputies, an officer performing a warrant service Saturday evening around 6:45pm located Smith at a business on Old Clemson Highway.  After asking for his identification and confirming that the individual was Smith, he was placed under arrest for outstanding warrants.  Upon searching Smith, the deputy found 10 pills in his pants pockets, which was later identified as diazepam.  According to warrants, Smith is accused of stealing tracks off a track hoe back on January 16 from a location on Durham Road in Fair Play, with the value of what was stolen at around $5,000.  Smith is also accused of breaking in and stealing property from a location on Seneca Creek Road in the Seneca area back on January 28.  One additional individual, 29-year-old Amber Rose Rumsey, of 156 Quail Ridge Road in Seneca, is also charged with grand larceny in the theft of the tracks off the track hoe that occurred on January 16 at the Durham Road location.”  A surety bond amount on the charges was set at $47,130 for Smith, who is still being held at the Oconee County Detention Center.  Rumsey was released from the Detention Center on Sunday on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
