Seneca Man Charged with Safecracking

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man over the weekend on multiple charges related to a burglary investigation.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to a residence on Jenkins Bridge Road near Westminster late last Friday night in reference to a burglary. The deputy spoke to the victim, who told the deputy that entry had been made into the home and multiple items were taken, which included jewelry, a safe, cash, a firearm and ammunition.

An investigator from the Criminal Investigations Division was notified. Based upon information provided to deputies, the investigator went to Laing Court near Seneca where evidence in the investigation was located. A suspect in the investigation, identified as Desbiens, was also located nearby and placed under arrest.

According to arrest warrants obtained against Desbiens, Desbiens entered the residence of the victim without consent and stole items from the residence. During the break-in, Desbiens also caused damage to a door frame by kicking in the door. Desbiens is also accused of breaking into the safe of the victim.

At this time, Desbiens remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $152,125.00 surety bond.
