Seneca Police Chief says Weapons being held for Safekeeping

Weapons were being held for safekeeping, reports Seneca Police Chief John Covington. The chief has received several media inquiries about an ongoing SLED investigation involving some weapons that are alleged to be missing from the Seneca Police Department. The chief says that the weapons were not part of any criminal investigation and were being held for safekeeping. The Oconee Sheriff’s Office did request that SLED investigate a complaint they received in December. That investigation is still active and ongoing. On a peripheral issue that arose during this investigation, Lt. Robert Tribble was dismissed from the Seneca Police Department on Jan. 2. Chief Covington says that this dismissal is a personnel matter not directly associated with the original complaint being investigated by SLED.
