Seneca Rotary Club Presents Annual Ballenger Award to Local Veterinarian

The Seneca Rotary Club recently presented its annual Ballenger Award to Dr. Mark Moore, owner and operator of Seneca Animal Hospital.

Once a year, the Club recognizes a business in the greater Seneca area for achieving the high level of service advocated by Rotary. The Award is named for Mr. Grady Ballenger, the first president of the Seneca Rotary Club and the owner/operator of a hardware store on Main Street in downtown Seneca for many years.

The Ballenger Award is given to a business that is locally owned, has been operated in the greater Seneca area for at least 10 years, demonstrates and promotes high ethical standards and is dedicated to providing stellar service to the community. The Award is always presented to a non-Rotarian.

Dr. Moore opened Seneca Animal Hospital in 2001 and moved to its current location in 2008. His clinic is the only American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) certified clinic in Oconee County. Having this accreditation means that Seneca Animal Hospital and its staff meet or exceed the highest standards in the veterinary industry.

Dr. Moore has an undergraduate degree from Morehead State University in Kentucky and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. He has held five different positions, including president, on the Executive Board for the SC Association of Veterinarians. He has served as an advisor to the Clemson University Diagnostic Laboratory and currently serves on the Advisory Committee to the Veterinary Technician Program at Tri-County Technical College.

Dr. Moore has participated in numerous mission trips to India and Panama and is a member of the Church of Christ.

He lives in Westminster with his wife and four children. They have 2 horses, 5 dogs, 5 cats, 2 lizards, 1 snake and 3 chickens. He enjoys biking, kayaking, working out at the YMCA and fishing with his kids.

Dr. Moore was nominated for the Ballenger Award by Rotarian Charles Crook. Mr. Crook writes, “Dr. Moore always treats his staff respectfully, has always communicated the needs of his clients openly and has been consistent in operating his business. He exemplifies the Rotary 4-Way test in his dealings with his patients and their families, his staff and his vendors. With his service to the community and his mission work abroad, Dr. Moore is an ideal candidate to receive this award.”
