Seneca Rotary Club raises over $16,800 for Charity

Over $16,800 is going to local charities thanks to the Seneca Rotary Club. The club held its annual Lake Keowee Poker Run fundraiser on June 9, and raised a total of $16,898 for the club’s education programs and community grants for non-profit organizations. The Seneca Rotary Club encountered a dilemma just weeks before the event when they were informed about an opinion from the Attorney General that Poker Runs were illegal in the State of South Carolina. With two weeks until the event, the Rotary Club decided to remove the poker aspect from the event and replace it with raffle tickets. Despite the last-minute changes to the event, over 50 boats enjoyed a day on Lake Keowee visiting five different stops to collect raffle tickets. Motorcycles and vehicles also participated via a scenic route around the lake. The Rotary Club is hopeful to return to its original Poker Run aspect next year. The Seneca Rotary Club would like to thank all participants, sponsors, and stop locations for a record year. Congratulations to the first-place winner, Mickey Bladel and runner up, Tommy Abbott. Both winners donated a portion of their winnings back to the fundraiser. Anyone interested to learn more about the Seneca Rotary Club is invited to attend their weekly meeting at Cross Creek Plantation on Wednesdays at 1pm.
