Seneca swears in New Council

The City of Seneca held a swearing in ceremony and reception for the newly elected council last night ahead of their regular monthly meeting. Newly elected W.C. Honeycutt Jr. took the oath of office along with incumbents; Scott Durham, Denise Rozman and Joel Ward. Then during the March meeting, the council reappointed the City Attorney, Municipal Judge, Associate Judge, Clerk/Treasurer as well as the Mayor Pro Tem, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander. “By state law we are required to appoint and reappoint people to certain offices. We reappointed Bo Bowman as City Attorney, Judge Danny Singleton as Municipal Judge, Susan Harris as Associate Judge, Carol Hall as Clerk/Treasurer and Ronnie O’Kelley as Mayor Pro Tem. All positions were unanimously approved, but again this are things that we have to vote on after every election by state law. So, I’m looking forward to what this year brings and the progress that we are going to make together.” In addition, the council met in Executive Session in order to discuss a contractual matter regarding the Pioneer Water District Contract. The mayor and council instructed City Administrator Greg Dietterick to send them a letter. “All this letter is is a reminder that the contract is up on the 26th of this month and that we have not heard back from them and we would like to have that put to rest before the end of the term on the 26th. If it is not there then we will work with them, we will let them know that we will work with them under some conditions in order to come to an agreement to get this water situation resolved.” That new contract, if agreed on, would set in place new rates to be charged by Seneca to Pioneer for 60% of the wholesale water supply Pioneer now receives.
