Seneca wins Statewide Award for Events

Seneca is nominated for two statewide awards at this year’s South Carolina Festival and Events Awards banquet on Saturday, explains Seneca Events Coordinator Riley Johnson. “There is a seminar every year and this year it is going to be held in Charleston and it’s the South Carolina Festival and Events Awards.  They recognize events throughout the state and this is statewide, not just a general area.  We submitted a couple of entries for this, this year.” Johnson says that the city learned earlier this week that it had been chosen to receive one of those award submissions. “We found out through the grapevine that Jazz on the Alley will be receiving the South Carolina Festival and Events Award for the Rising Star Event of the Year statewide, so we are very happy about that.”  Lunney House Museum curator and director Dr. John Martin was also nominated for the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award, adds Johnson.  “Dr. John Martin from the panel I hear if they could have given an award for second place, he would have won that, so top two out of the two events we entered, one won and one finished as runner-up, which is not too bad.” Johnson, Dr. Martin and Lunney House Museum assistant Molly Smith will attend the seminar this weekend in Charleston to receive the award on behalf of the City of Seneca.
