Seneca’s Al Gaines Remembered As Quiet History Maker

Former Seneca Junior High Principal and current Seneca City Council Member Al Gaines passed away Tuesday, February 28, at the age of 82.

Gaines was not only the first black city council member in the city’s history, but also the first black principal in Oconee County following desegregation. Gaines served a total of twenty-eight years on the city council, having been elected four times.

Seneca’s Mayor Dan Alexander said he is grateful for the friendship of a great man…

Arrangements will be announced later. Our deepest sympathies to the family.
