Service Disrupted to Utility Customers After Vandalism Incident

AT&T estimates it’ll cost $18,000 to replace hundreds of feet of cable that was recently vandalized in rural Oconee, and according to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, Ricky Edward Wood, 61-years-old from West Union, has been charged in connection with the vandalism at Sherwood Drive and SC 28/Highlands Highway. He is also accused of the same crime in an alleged incident at 9800 Long Creek Highway.

In each incident, service was disrupted to as many as 10 utility customers. At Long Creek Highway, close to 500 feet of wire was reported as missing. Wood remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $50,000 surety bond, and is also being held for another law enforcement agency.
