Seven killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces seven people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Sept. 13, 650 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 550 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014. Locally, Anderson County reports 23 highway fatalities in 2015 compared to 27 in 2014. Oconee County lists 11 deaths each of the past two years at this time. Pickens County has experienced 11 highway fatalities in 2015 compared to eight in 2014. Of the 434 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2015, 216 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Sept. 13, 73 pedestrians have died compared to 63 in 2014; 99 motorcyclists have died compared to 68 in 2014; and 12 bicyclists have died compared to 9 in 2014 on state roads and highways.
