Seven killed on SC Roadways over Thanksgiving Holiday

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports seven people killed on state roadways during the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday weekend. As of Nov. 30, 725 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 713 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Locally, Oconee County lists 12 highway fatalities in 2014 compared to three in 2013. Pickens County reports 10 in 2014 and 14 in 2013. Anderson County has experienced 39 highway deaths in 2014 compared to 31 in 2013. Of the 506 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2014, 241 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Nov. 30, 93 pedestrians have died compared to 91 in 2013; 80 motorcyclists have died compared to 120 in 2013; and 13 bicyclists have died compared to 14 in 2013 on state roads and highways.
