Sexual Exploitation Now a Felony in SC

A new law in South Carolina makes sexual exploitation a felony. Sexual exploitation is when someone blackmails another person with sexually explicit images or videos. The governor signed the bill, called Gavin’s Law, last week. The law is harsher if the victim is a minor or a vulnerable adult. Then, it is an aggravated felony. The law also requires school districts to educate students, parents, and staff about the law and the dangers of sexual exploitation. The FBI says more than 3,000 minors were victims of this crime in 2022.
