Shaver to host Race in Marathon Series

A long-distance race circuit has picked Seneca’s Shaver Recreation Complex as the fourth leg in its Appalachian Series. Seneca Events Coordinator Riley Johnson gives details. “We are so fortunate to get this group into our city. Its five states, five days and five marathons. Now these guys, it’s about 100 or so, they travel to five different states for five days and they run five different marathons. This is tourism at its finest. I’m talking about the marathon coming in October, it’s going to be great. It is like 20 something laps around Shaver’s Recreation Complex. If you can only do a half that is great too, because they are even going to have a prize for last place.” The “Mainly Marathons Circuit” started out west in 2012, adds Johnson. “They are from out west, they picked our city and we are so thankful for that. They came in last year and kind of looked at the outline of the Shaver Recreation complex and feel in love with it and what do you know, we got they all right here. So, that means they will be in our city, eating in our restaurants, they will be staying in our hotels and they will be running on this beautiful track at Shaver’s Recreation Complex coming up in October.” To register for the Oct. 14 marathon at Seneca’s Shaver Recreation Complex visit the city’s website at www.seneca.sc.us.
