Shelter overcrowded as Oconee Humane Society joins PetSmart National Adoption Week

OCONEE HUMANE SOCIETY ENCOURAGES ADDING A NEW FAMILY MEMBER DURING PETSMART CHARITIES NATIONAL ADOPTION WEEK AND KITTEN SEASON 

In-Person Adoption Events to Take Place at Seneca PetSmart Store July 10 – 16

July 7, 2023 – Seneca, SC— Animal shelters across the nation are full to overflowing, and scores of adoptable pets are waiting even longer to find loving homes. Oconee Humane Society is proud to partner with PetSmart Charities® to bring adoptable pets to Seneca PetSmart in support of National Adoption Week, taking place July 10 – 16, 2023. PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week in July coincides with kitten season. Following peak breeding activity for cats, many shelters are flooded with scores of vulnerable kittens and cats in need of loving homes.

While there is an emphasis on helping cats and kittens find homes amid kitten season, potential adopters may also meet dogs of all shapes and sizes in need of families. Staff and volunteers will help adopters learn about caring for a pet and the types of tools, products and services that can support new pet parents.

Adoptable pets will be available at the following times and PetSmart locations:

  • July 10 (Monday) – noon-2pm Cats/kittens
  • July 11 (Tuesday) – noon-2pm Dogs 
  • July 12 (Wednesday) – noon-2pm Cats/kittens
  • July 13 (Thursday) – noon-2pm Dogs
  • July 14 (Friday) – noon-2pm Cats/kittens
  • July 15 (Saturday) – 10am-3pm Dogs and Cats/kittens
  • July 16 (Sunday) – noon-3pm Dogs and Cats/kittens
