Sheriff Crenshaw Announces New Safety Measure for SDOC Schools

During Tuesday night’s School District of Oconee’s Board of Trustees meeting, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw announced new security to further protect students, teachers and staff.

Eighteen biometric gun safes will be installed in school buildings across the district that will enable resource officers to access a long rifle in the event of an emergency, by opening the safe with a fingerprint. And seconds can mean the difference between life or death, Sheriff Crenshaw said…

Sheriff Crenshaw made clear there are no known current threats to the public schools, and that while each school resource officer is armed with a pistol, a situation could warrant the use of a long gun.
