Sheriff Crenshaw completes Review of Missing Drug Funds

Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw’s lengthy review of missing drug fund money is complete. Sheriff Crenshaw said, “I do not see any facts or evidence to indicate the need for further investigation.” The Sheriff based that conclusion on “evidence in the case, interviews with current employees, interviews with various citizens, results of a polygraph test, and the opinion of a recognized forensic accountant.” Sheriff Crenshaw also offered this explanation as to why only a portion of the stolen money could be accounted for in the SLED investigation, saying, “It is due to the subject not being able to account for how the money was spent other than frivolously.” In 2010, former office manager Kathleen Taylor was sent to prison for 18 months for embezzlement and ordered to pay back more than $500,000.
