Shortage of Volunteer Firefighters in Oconee County

Seneca Fire Fighters were sent to Quail Ridge Road near Pruitt Road just before 6:00am this morning to a house fire. There were no injuries reported. Investigators will determine what caused the fire.

And, speaking of fire departments, according to a new letter soliciting funds from the public, volunteers with the Corinth-Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department are starting to “wear thin”.

The letter goes on to read that “the time has come for [the department] to pursue a better option.” That option is described as “having paid fire and medical personnel 24/7 appears to be the best way to serve the community” in addition to a volunteer station. Oconee County Fire Fighters reported a record breaking year for both medical and fire related calls last year.
