SHS Class of 2016 earns over $12M in Scholarships

Arey PicSuffern PICSeneca High School (SHS) holds graduation on Saturday and Guidance Director Karen Trammell gives some of the many highlights of the Class of 2016. “Our kids did a great job this year, our senior class earned over $12.1 million in scholarships. That was a really good number considering we have only 176 graduates. Out of those 176 graduates, I think we have well over 100 kids that are getting some form of scholarship whether it be academic, athletic or being involved in such activities as Interact, Key Club and those kinds of things. Our Salutatorian is Nathan Arey, he finished second in the class and our Valedictorian is Matthew Suffern.” The SHS Class of 2016 earned 118 Life Scholarships and 75% of the class earned the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) Platinum Seal Diploma Award. Trammell gives details about graduation on Saturday. “We will graduate on Coach Tom Bass Field on Saturday morning at 9am. We are hoping for good weather; we do have a rain plan but it looks like the weather is going to be good, so we encourage everyone to arrive early to get a good seat. Find out from your student that is graduating which side they are going to be on so you will have the best photo opportunity.” Of the 178 graduates in the SHS Class of 2016, 41% plan to attend a four-year college or university and 4% plan to enter the military.
