SHS FFA Chapter awarded Gold Ranking

The Seneca High School (SHS) Chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) was recently awarded the prestigious Gold Chapter Ranking in the 2016 National FFA Chapter Awards Program. Being recognized as a Gold Chapter is one of the top awards in the National FFA Organization. This is the third time that the chapter has received gold accreditation in the last four years. Selection is based on each chapter creating and implementing a yearly program of activities, with a focus on three critical areas: student development, chapter development, and community development. These activities are designed to encourage members of chapters to grow as individuals, work as part of a team, and to serve others. Seneca was one of only nine programs in the state of South Carolina to receive the coveted gold ranking. Being selected as a gold chapter recipient, the Seneca High School FFA is now in the running to be selected as one of the top three FFA chapters in the state of South Carolina. This will be announced in June at the 2016 South Carolina State FFA Convention held on the campus of Clemson University. Furthermore, achieving a gold ranking on the state level qualifies Seneca to become a National 3-Star Gold Chapter. National selection will be held in October at the 89th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana. Christina Alexander, SHS Agricultural Education Teacher and FFA Advisor, said, “I am ecstatic that the Seneca High School chapter of Future Farmers of America has been chosen again to receive this prestigious award for the 2015-2016 school year. This award is recognition for all the hard work and dedication that the members of the Seneca FFA put forth on a daily basis. I couldn’t be more proud of this group of students.” The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
