SHS Principal named SC Principal of the Year

Seneca High School Principal Cliff Roberts is the South Carolina High School Principal of the Year. The announcement came Thursday afternoon in a surprise ceremony, explains Roberts. “It was a great surprise; they did a wonderful job, Mrs. Leroy and some of the folks of keeping it a secret. I think she worked with Dr. Thorsland, Mr. Hanvey and some of the folks at the district level to keep it a secret. I came back from a meeting yesterday and my entire family, a lot of the student body and teachers were here to surprise me. Mrs. Spearman from the State Department, who is our superintendent-elect, was here to present the award. You know, its one of those awards that is the State Principal of the Year, but even though that sounds like an individual award it is anything but that. I don’t get to that level without the outstanding students that we have at Seneca High, the wonderful faculty and staff that has bought in and the community that supports our school. So, I am just excited this is an award that we can all celebrate together because it really took a team effort for me to be considered for this kind of an award.” As the South Carolina Secondary Principal of the Year, Roberts automatically enters competition for the national honor.
