SHS Spring Choral Concert

The Seneca High School Choral Department presents their annual Spring Concert on Sunday, May 3 at 3pm. The venue for the concert is Seneca Baptist Church on Highway 59. The program will feature the Women’s Chorus, Men’s Chorus, Honors Women’s Chorus, Honors Chorale and the Madrigal Vocal Jazz Singers. Highlights of the concert include the Women’s Chorus performing the country favorite, “God Bless the Broken Road” and the Men’s Chorus singing and dancing to “You’re Sixteen” made popular by Johnny Burnette and Ringo Starr with staging by Pam Jennings. They will also be singing the Zulu folk song “Aya Ngena” with percussion. The Honors Women’s Chorus and the Honors Chorale will present their State Choral Festival repertoire which includes such songs as “Bring Me Little Water, Silvy” and “Loch Lomond” featuring junior soloist Daniel Rogers. The Honors Women’s Chorus will also sing, “It Might as Well Be Spring” from the musical State Fair and “Lollipop” made popular by the Chordettes. The Honors Chorale will be singing “Sing a Mighty Song” by Gawthrop and the ever popular spiritual “Ezekiel Saw de Wheel” by Dawson. They will close with a senior dedication piece entitled “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” featuring senior soloist Bethany Williams. The Madrigals will open the concert with “Groovin” made popular in the 1960’s by The Young Rascals. They will also perform all acapella vocal jazz selections including “Stray Cat Strut” made popular by the Stray Cats and “Home”, co-written by Phillip Phillips. All choirs are under the direction of Diane McFarlane and accompanied by Masheila Cobb, music faculty member at Seneca High School. Oconee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland will provide the welcome. Admission is free and open to the public.
