SHS to hold 9th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction

Seneca High School (SHS) announces the ninth class of the Athletic Hall of Fame. The new inductees will be honored at the Seneca versus Powdersville football game on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017. The 2017 three member class includes athletes Tracey Golden, Rick Lacey, and Julie Talley. Tracey Golden is a 1985 graduate of SHS. He was a three sport athlete competing in football, basketball and track and field earning nine varsity letters. He was All-Region on both offense and defense in football. Tracey was a two-time All-County Selection and the 1984 County Football Player of the Year leading the team in rushing, tackles, and interceptions. Tracey earned five varsity letters in track and field. He was the 1984 Junior Olympic National Champion in the triple jump; two-time State Champion, All-American, and All-State in the 4×400 relay and 10-time Region and Upper State Champion in high jump, long jump and triple jump. He was the 1985 South Carolina Upper State Athlete of the Year. Tracey was the triple jump school record holder for 31 years and long jump school record holder for over 25 years and still holds the 4x400m relay school record, which ranks 12th all-time in South Carolina high school history. Tracey also served as SHS’s Student Body President in the 1984-85 school year. Tracey is a 1989 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy where he continued his track career earning eight letters in indoor and outdoor track. He was the 1987 Western Athletic Conference Runner Up in the triple jump and selected to the 1991 All-Air Force Track and Field Team. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2016 as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves serving at the U.S. Special Operations Command. He is currently a United Airlines Boeing 777 pilot and spends his spare time coaching football and track. He currently serves as the Head Track and Field coach and defensive back and wide receiver coach at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA. He is married to Masako Golden and has one son, Tyga. Incidentally, Tracey joins his father, Fred Golden, in the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Rick Lacey is a 1974 graduate of SHS. He was a three sport athlete competing in football, basketball and baseball. He earned varsity letters in all three sports. He was named an All-American in basketball his junior and senior years. He was also named All-American in baseball his junior and senior years. Rick was All-Region and played in the 1973 Shrine North South All-Star football game his senior year. He received the Captain’s Award in basketball in 1973. He was a member of the Region Championship basketball team in 1974. He was a member of the Region Champion baseball teams in 1972, 1973, and 1974. He also participated in American Legion Baseball earning the League VII Most Valuable Player Award and leading his team to the League Championship. Rick was the first recipient of the Shorty Shaver Award honoring his excellence and commitment to athletics and character. Rick attended Anderson College on a baseball scholarship and was eventually drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. Rick is currently the Director of Recreation and Tourism for the City of Seneca where his staff has hosted three Dixie Boys World Series Tournaments and 14 state tournaments in all sports. He is married to Deana Lacey and they have two sons, Adam and Sam. Julie Talley is a 2002 graduate of SHS. Julie was a star basketball player during her high school career. She was the varsity basketball team’s MVP for four seasons, earning All-Region accolades each of those four years. Julie was the Region 1-AAA Player of the Year her junior and senior years. She was selected to various All-State teams all four years in high school. She was the State Player of the year in 2001 and played in the S.C. Athletic Coaches Association Coach’s Classic All-Star Game in 2002. Julie finished her SHS career with 1,831 points for a 4-season average of 17.7 points per game which remained the school record until 2011. She had a career field goal percentage of 49.7% including 41.1% from 3-point range. Her teams had a record of 107-9 over her four years in high school winning the AAA State Championship in 1999. Her teams made the Final Four in 1999, 2001, and 2002. Julie attended Clemson University on a basketball scholarship where she had a great career making 152 three-point field goals. Julie returned to SHS to be an assistant basketball coach for the 2010-11 season. Julie currently works for the U.S. Postal Service, is a personal trainer, and resides in Seneca.
