Signs promoting Outdoor Attractions going up in OC

It will soon be much easier to find the hidden outdoor sites of the Golden Corner of South Carolina.  Starting this summer and continuing through the fall, Oconee County will be installing “Way Finding Signs” explains Oconee County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Phil Shirley. “We have started a “Way Finding Sign” project throughout Oconee County.  It is going to be done in a couple of phases.  Phase One hits Highway 11 and points north and west of that and what we are trying to do is really highlight for our visitors and for locals who are not aware, all of our waterfalls, access points, river points, lake access points, visitor centers, museums and things like that.  We have our county tourism logo that we are using.  We have been working with DOT, we recently got our permits for these signs, and we are ordering the materials in the next week or so.  We will be making those signs and installing them in the summer.  These are brown signs and they will be up hopefully by this fall.  These signs will get you to the waterfalls, if you are riding up Highway 11, 107 or 76 in Phase One.  Right now, you have to go find literature or know where they are, but this will get the person just driving by to get out there and enjoy the county’s outdoor assets.” These brown information signs will direct traffic to the outdoor attractions of Oconee County.  Signs are being installed in phases, so more and more will be added as materials become available.
