Six killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces six people were killed on state roadways from Friday, January 10, at 6pm until Sunday, January 12, at midnight. As of January 12, 25 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 24 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Oconee County reports three deaths in 2014 compared to zero in 2013 at this same time.  Pickens County has experienced one highway fatality in 2014 compared to two in 2013.  Anderson County lists zero highway deaths at this time in both years. Of the 20 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2014, 11 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight January 12, four pedestrians, one motorcyclist and zero bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight January 12, 2014.
