Six killed on SC Roadways over weekend

Six people died on South Carolina roadways over the weekend. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces as of July 27, 416 people have died on state highways, compared to 414 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Locally, Oconee County reports seven highway deaths in 2014 compared to just one in 2013 at this same time. Pickens County lists 7 in 2014 and 10 in 2013. Anderson County has experienced 23 highway fatalities in 2014 compared to 16 in 2013. Of the 293 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2014, 144 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight July 27, 49 pedestrians, 47 motorcyclists and 6 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight July 27, 2014.
